Description: |
The City of Burlington currently operates and maintains 210 traffic signals falling under the jurisdiction of the City, Halton Region, MTO and 407 ETR. In the early- to mid-2000’s the City deployed a traffic signal pre-emption system City-wide, and approximately 95% of all signalized locations are currently equipped with preemption equipment. The existing pre-emption system is entirely optical based (infrared) and is currently used exclusively by Burlington Fire Department vehicles. In the coming year, the City plans to begin implementing Transit Signal Priority (TSP) along select corridors across the road network. In addition to the City’s desire to implement TSP, the advancement in ITS technologies has resulted in the need to establish a strategy to maintain, develop and grow the capabilities of Traffic Signal Pre-emption and Priority Control in the City of Burlington. *Online Electronic Submissions Only* |
